LSMS adds Great Big Sea, Baez & Prettyman

Organizers for the Lowell Summer Music Series have another slate of concerts to their summer lineup. The concert series will welcome back two of their most popular acts in Joan Baez and Great Big Sea, while Tristan Prettyman will make her Boarding House Park debut this year. Tickets for each of the shows are now on sale through the venue’s website.

Joan Baez will return to Boarding House Park for a performance on Friday June 28. With material from over 20 studio releases to pick from, fans can expect a diverse setlist from the legendary folk star. Her last offering of all new material was 2008’s Day After Tomorrow. Tickets for the show are available for $47 in advance or $55 on the day of.

Tristan Prettyman’s summer tour plans will include a stop in Lowell on Friday August 9. The Californian singer-songwriter continues to tour in support of her latest album, 2012’s Cedar + Gold. Released in October, Prettyman’s third studio effort was produced by Greg Wells and features singles “My Oh My” and “I Was Gonna Marry You”. “Come Clean” was co-written by former Bostonian Bleu. Tickets for the show are available for $26 in advance or $35 on the day of.

Great Big Sea will return to Massachusetts for a show in Lowell on Friday August 23. The pride of Newfoundland are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and fans can expect a set packed with hits from their new compilation album, XX. Released last October, the 2-CD set covers the biggest hits from their more pop-oriented repertoire on the first disc, and some of their most loved traditional and folk songs on the second. To balance out the discs, the band also added six brand new songs. Tickets for the show are available for $28 in advance or $35 on the day of.

Previously announced shows include Michael McDonald (Saturday, July 13), Kenny Wayne Shepherd (Friday, July 19), Ryan Montbleau Band (Friday, August 2), Buddy Guy (Saturday, August 3) and Solas (Saturday, August 31).

More shows will be added to the 2013 Lowell Summer Music Series over the next few months.

Along with the slate of new concerts, organizers have also announced details for the 2013 Lowell Summer Music Series season pass. Fans can purchase a season pass for the “early bird” rate of $350 during the month of April, a price that is over 40% less than than purchasing individual tickets to all of the concerts. The season pass, which is non-transferable, will increase to $375 in May.

Boarding House Park is a general admission venue and children age 12 and under are admitted free. In the event of rain, shows will either move to the Cyrus Irish Auditorium at Lowell High School or to the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. One new change to the Lowell Summer Music Series that is sure to please concertgoers is the elimination of all ticket fees. The price listed for all shows will be the final price of admission with no additional fees of any kind added at checkout.
