Glenn Frey has revealed plans for a handful of shows next month in support of his forthcoming album, After Hours. The founding member the Eagles will make one stop in New England with a performance scheduled for Sunday, May 20 at the MGM Grand Theatre at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $60 to $80, are now on sale through the venue’s box office and website.

After Hours, Frey’s sixth solo album and first since 1992’s Strange Weather, will be released on May 8. The album, which took 2 1/2 years to complete, is a collection of classic love songs from the 40’s to the present, including Tony Bennett and The Beach Boys. The title track to After Hours, which Frey wrote with longtime collaborator Jack Tempchin, is the lone original song on the album.

“For me personally, a lot of this music is something that was played around my house before Elvis,” Frey said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “This is the music that was on the radio, the big band stuff. And then when I moved to California, I met J.D. Souther. He was a big jazz buff, and he turned me on to music I hadn’t heard before, from Miles Davis to Ray Charles to Lee Morgan to Horace Silver, and I loved it.”

The recording process was loose and relaxing with Frey trying several songs before finding the right selections. “I’d pick a song that I really liked, and the record started in the control room with the piano, myself and my producers, Richard Davis and Michael Thompson,” he said. “We’d listen to the song, we’d find a key, we’d pick a tempo, and we’d sit there and I’d sing the song in the control room with the guys. It had to be a good marriage. It had to be something that suits my voice. We tried some songs that didn’t work.”

As previously reported, Frey will be in Boston next month when he and his bandmates in the Eagles are presented with honorary doctor of music degrees at the Berklee College of Music”s commencement ceremony on May 12.
