Furthur plot summertime return to Massachusetts

, Staff

After jamming through a three-night stand at the Oprheum Theatre earlier this year, Furthur will continue their musical adventures this summer and return to Massachusetts in July. Led by former Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh & Bob Weir, the band will play the Comcast Center in Mansfield on Thursday, July 21. Tickets, which range in price from $25 to $59.50, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Live Nation.

Fans, new and old, can expect Lesh and Weir to “furthur” explore some of the Grateful Dead’s classic songs with help from an all star band featuring keyboardist Jeff Chimenti (Rat Dog), drummer Joe Russo (Benevento – Russo Duo, Trey Anastasio), and guitarist John Kadlecik (Dark Star Orchestra) and vocalists Sunshine Becker and Jeff Pehrson.

The group has toured extensively since 2010, making numerous stops throughout New England, including Boston’s Orpheum Theatre, Worcester’s DCU Center and Lowell’s LeLacheur Park, as well as a headlining slot at the Nateva Music & Camping Festival in Maine last summer.
