Flogging Molly will once again help launch the St. Patrick’s Day season in Massachusetts next year when they bring their annual “Green 17” back to Boston. The Los Angeles-based Celtic punk rockers will perform at the House of Blues on Tuesday, February 21. Joining them will be special guests Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears and The Devil Makes Three. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $29.50 and $39.50.

The Boston show will mark the band’s first in the area since the release of their latest album, Speed of Darkness. The band’s fifth studio effort debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200 after its release last May. Produced by Ryan Hewitt (Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Avett Brothers), Speed of Darkness was recorded at Echo Mountain, an old church building turned recording studio in Asheville, North Carolina.

Lead singer and songwriter Dave King wrote most of the lyrics for Speed of Darkness in Detroit, Michigan. The album takes a hard-nosed look at the economic collapse in the United States including the causes and the direct effect it has had on everyday people. “It wasn’t the album we set out to write,” explained King a in press release, “it became the album we had to write.”

The “Green 17” tour was born in 2004 as a countdown to St Patrick‚Äôs Day with a performance celebration in each city leading to the holiday.
