DKM added to Boston Pops’ 4th of July concert
Dropkick Murphys have been added to the annual Boston Pop’s Fireworks Spectacular celebration on July 4 at the Hatch Shell. The hometown favorites, who performed a two-song set with the orchestra at Symphony Hall last month, will join conductor Keith Lockhart and the orchestra to collaborate on two of the band’s biggest hits “Tessie” and “I’m Shipping Up To Boston”.
As previously announced, Oscar and Grammy Award-winning pop star Jennifer Hudson will serve as the event’s primary special guest. The concert, now its 39th year, will be televised locally by WBZ TV and nationally by CBS with host Michael Chiklis. The Massachusetts native and Emmy Award-winning actor (“The Shield”) hosted the event for the first time last year.
Boston native, Mary Callanan, Jennifer Swiderski and Kaye Tuckerman will be performing “Dancing Queen” and “The Winner Takes It All” from Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ global smash hit musical “Mamma Mia!”. The Navy Band Sea Chanters, the United States Navy’s official chorus, will also perform
The Pops will host an open dress rehearsal on Sunday, July 3 at 8:30.
In related news, WBZ will air a special program called “The Making of the Fourth”, which will take a behind the scenes look at what goes into the annual Boston Pop’s Fireworks Spectacular, on Friday at 7 p.m.
