Drive-by Truckers have announced plans for a spring tour in support of their forthcoming album, English Oceans. The pride of Athens, Georgia will swing through Massachusetts for a show at the House of Blues on Friday, March 21. Tickets for the show, which will also feature special guests Blitzen Trapper, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Live Nation for $25.

English Oceans, Drive-by Truckers’ twelfth studio effort and follow-up to 2011’s Go-Go Boots, will be released on March 4. All but one of the collection’s 13 new songs, written by singer-guitarists and co-founding members Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, were recorded during 13 days of sessions in August 2013 with longtime producer David Barbe.

“It can go from this chainsaw rock ‘n’ roll to this very delicate, pretty-sounding stuff,” said Cooley in a press release.

The album was recorded with a compact, retooled lineup. Jay Gonzalez, who joined the band in 2008 as keyboardist, has added guitar to his duties, while bassist Matt Patton was drafted from the Tuscaloosa group The Dexateens. “It’s a very tasteful group, and when it needs to be it can be a very big, powerful, over-the-top band, too, and it can go from one to the other seamlessly,” explained Hood.

Fans can get a taste of English Oceans with “Pauline Hawkins”, which is streaming and can be downloaded for free below.

Blitzen Trapper continue to tour in support of their latest album, VII. The band’s appropriately titled seventh studio effort and follow-up to 2011’s American Goldwing was released in October.
