Dispatch joins Gathering of the Vibes lineup

Organizers for Conneticut’s Gathering of the Vibes music festival have finalized this summer’s lineup with the addition of Dispatch at the their final headliner. The Massachusetts-bred rockers will close out the 19th annual festival, which will return to Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut for four nights of music from Thursday, July 31 to Sunday, August 3.

Dispatch will join fellow headliners John Fogerty and Widespread Panic. The band’s last offering of all new material was 2012’s Circles Around The Sun. Released in August of 2012, it followed their triumphant reunion in 2011 after a seven-year hiatus. Dispatch’s fifth studio effort and first since 2000’s Who Are We Living For? was was produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National). Last summer, they released a live album called Ain’t No Trip to Cleveland Vol. 1, which featured selections from performances since their reunion.

Along with the new headliners, Allen Stone, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Stanley Jordan and Banooba have been added to the 2014 Gathering of the Vibes lineup. Other highlights on tap for this year’s festival include Umphrey’s McGee, moe., Rodrigo y Gabriela, Ziggy Marley, Maceo Parker, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Slightly Stoopid and Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue.

The Connecticut festival is known both for honoring the legacy of the Grateful Dead and for its unique collaborations. This year is no exception. Festival favorites Keller Williams, Jeff Austin of Yonder Mountain String Band and Reed Mathis of Tea Leaf Green are teaming up as “Grateful Grass”, while Grateful Dead percussionists and current Rhythm Devils leaders Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann will join forces with The Disco Biscuits for a set.

On Friday night, Lotus will deliver a special tribute to the Talking Heads. The band described their “Lotus: Talking Heads Deconstructed” set in a press release by saying they would be “exploring the intersections between the music of Lotus and Talking Heads, rock and dance, and old and new.”

This year’s Gathering of the Vibes festival will also feature returning favorites Dark Star Orchestra, Strangefolk, Dumpstaphunk, Umphrey’s McGee, moe., Ryan Montbleau, Deep Banana Blackout, Kung Fu, and beloved Master of Ceremonies Wavy Gravy.

In total, Gathering of the Vibes will host nearly fifty bands over four days on multiple stages located throughout the historic and scenic 370-acre beachfront venue along Long Island Sound. The complete lineup is available below.

Tickets for the Gathering of the Vibes are now on sale through the festival’s official website. Weekend passes with on-site camping, which will be required for access to the kick-off concert on Thursday or any of the late night sets on Friday and Saturday, can be purchased for $235.Single-day general admission tickets are available for $75 on Friday and Saturday or $50 on Sunday. A variety of VIP packages are also available.

Along with all the music, Gathering of the Vibes offers attendees an array of food and crafts vendors, information on various non-profits, areas for children’s activities, a ferris wheel and more.
