Cowboy Junkies have released dates for an upcoming tour in support of their recent project, The Nomad Series. The band will hit the Somerville Theatre for a performance on Thursday, March 8. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $25 to $40, are now on sale through the venue’s box office and website. Folk veteran Joe Purdy will open the show.

The Toronto-based group released the four volumes of The Nomad Series over a year and a half between June 2010 and December 2011. The first volume, Renmin Park, is inspired by guitarist Michael Timmins’s three-month stay in China, and includes material from Chinese artists. The second volume, Demons, is a cover album of the band’s recently deceased friend Vic Chesnutt. The third volume, Sing In My Meadow, is self-described as an album of “Acid Blues” with heavy psychedelic influences. The final installment, The Wilderness, mixed new tracks with several songs the band played live over the previous year.

Cowboy Junkies plan to release a book detailing the character, nature and inspiration of each volume in the near future.
