Melody Tent adds more summer shows

With spring finally here, the summer concert season is inching closer. Organizers for the concert series at the Cape Cod Melody Tent have added another slate of shows to their growing schedule with The B-52s, The Go-Go’s, Pink Martini, Garry Allan, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs and Lyle Lovett all scheduled to visit the intimate Hyannis venue this summer.

The B-52s and The Go-Go’s will join forces for a summer outing that stops in Hyannis on Saturday, June 22. With no new releases to support, fans can expect a set packed with hits from each of the 80’s favorites. Both groups will will be down an original member as The B-52’s Keith Strickland announced in December that he was retiring from touring, while The Go-Go’s recently announced they had parted ways with bassist Kathy Valentine, citing irreconcilable differences. Tickets for the show are now on sale for $57.75 and $77.75.

Led by Massachusetts native China Forbes, Pink Martini will return to Hyannis for a show at the Melody Tent on Saturday, June 29. The band is currently working on two new recordings, one of which will be joint release with the Von Trapps. In 2011, they released two albums: A Retrospective, a collection of the band’s most beloved songs spanning their 17-year career (plus eight previously unreleased tracks) and 1969, an album of collaborations with legendary Japanese singer Saori Yuki. Tickets for the show are now on sale for $37.75 and $57.75.

Gary Allan will make his way to Massachusetts for a show at the Melody Tent on Sunday, June 30. The veteran country singer will be touring in support of his brand new album, Set You Free. Released earlier this month, Allan’s ninth studio effort became his first to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200. It features singles “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)” and “Pieces”. Tickets for the show will go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. through the venue’s website for $55.25 and $75.25.

Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs, who toured together last year with friend Donald Fagen as The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue, will team up for a co-headlining performance at the Melody Tent on Saturday, July 6. McDonald recently released a brand new song called “La Marea”. It is the first of several new songs he is expected to release from recording sessions with guitarist Robben Ford. Scaggs will be promoting his first new alnum in five years, Memphis. Released earlier this month, it was recorded over three days with producer Steve Jordan (John Mayer) at the legendary Royal Studios in Memphis. Tickets for the show are now on sale for $62.75 and $82.75.

Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group will return to Massachusetts for a show at the Melody Tent on Sunday, July 7 and its sister venue, the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset on Saturday, July 6. The veteran country singer-songwriter continues to tour in support of 2012’s Release Me. Produced by Nathaniel Kunkel and Lovett, Lovett’s eleventh studio effort is a collection of originals and covers. Tickets for each of the shows will go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. through the venue’s website for $40.25 and $60.25.

The Cape Cod Melody Tent and its sister venue, the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, are both operated by South Shore Playhouse Associates (SSPA), a not-for-profit organization that supports arts and education in southeastern Massachusetts. Every seat for both venues is within 50 feet of the stage.

More shows will be added to the lineup for both venues over the next couple of months.
