Boston to play Mohegan Sun Arena with Cheap Trick

Led by guitarist and founding member Tom Scholz, Boston have announced plans to return to the road for a summer tour. Joined by special guests Cheap Trick, the classic rock favorites will perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville on Saturday, June 28. Tickets for the show will go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $39.50.

Boston will be touring in support of their forthcoming album, Life, Love & Hope. The band’s sixth studio effort and first since 2002’s Corporate America was released in December. It marks the band’s first release since the death of lead vocalist Brad Delp in 2007, though his vocals are included on several of the album’s songs. Tommy DeCarlo, as well as Kimberley Dahme, David Victor and songwriter Scholz also contribute vocals. Lead single “Heaven on Earth” is streaming below.

“These are songs from the heart, each of them taking many months of effort to write, arrange, perform and record, always up to the demands of Boston’s harshest critic, me,” said Scholz in a press release. “They have all been meticulously recorded to analog tape on the same machines and equipment used for Boston’s hits for the past 35 years.”

He added, “I intentionally stayed close to the early Boston style on some of the songs, even using the same amps and instruments; on others I let my imagination run wild.”

Cheap Trick’s last offering of all new material was 2009’s The Latest. Along with joining Boston in Connecticut, the band will perform a headlining show of their own at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in New Hampshire on Thursday, June 5.
