Gaelic Storm highlight 2012 Boston Irish Festival

The Boston Irish Festival will return to Canton this weekend as the Irish Cultural Center of New England hosts their annual celebration of Irish music and culture. This year’s three-day lineup boasts an array of bands including Gaelic Storm, Glengarry Bhoys, Screaming Orphans and more.

The festival will kick off with a concert from Celtic rock veterans Gaelic Storm on Friday. The California-based band, who first rose to fame thanks to an appearance in the blockbuster film Titanic, are gearing up for the release of their forthcoming album, Chicken Boxer. The band’s ninth studio album and follow-up to 2010’s Cabbage will hit stores on July 31. Erin Org will open the show. Tickets are available now through the festival’s website for the advance price of $20 with preferred seating available for $30. Tickets will also be available at the gate for $25.

On Saturday, the festival will kick into high gear with performances from Glengarry Bhoys, The Prodigals, Tom Lanigan, Inchicore and more. Sunday’s lineup includes The Screaming Orphans, Devri Band, The Gobshites amd more.

Saturday and Sunday’s musical offerings will also include a second stage with a variety of New England-based traditional Irish favorites, as well as various sessions throughout the festival grounds. The festival schedule with estimated set times for each of the stages is available below.

A new addition to the Boston Irish Festival will be a 5k Run/Walk on Saturday. The race will start at 9:30 a.m. and participants of all ages are welcome. The entry fee is $25 and will include free entry to the festival. Also on Saturday, the Boston Irish Festival will attempt to break the world record for the most redheads in one area. Organizers plan on gathering all redheads for a big photo on Saturday at 2 p.m. on Sunday, the festival will host an Irish bread baking competition.

Aside from all the music, the Boston Irish Festival will host an Irish Films tent, an Author’s tent, Gaelic Football and Hurling matches, Genealogy Consultations, Irish Step Dancing, crafts, food, amusement rides and much more.

Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are available for in advance for $10 or at the date for $15 per a day. Current ICC members can purchase discounted tickets for $10 per a day.

The festival will take place on the grounds of the Irish Cultural Center of New England at 200 New Boston Drive in Canton, Massachusetts.
