After selling out their first edition this past weekend, organizers for the Boston Calling Music Festival have announced plans for a prompt return with a second edition scheduled for this September. Returning to City Hall Plaza on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8, the festival will be headlined by Vampire Weekend and Boston’s own Passion Pit.

Local Natives, Kendrick Lamar, The Gaslight Anthem, The Airborne Toxic Event and Major Lazor highlight the other acts set for the September edition of Boston Calling. Also on the lineup are Bat For Lashes, Wolfgang Garner, Solange, Flosstradamus, Okkervil River, Licius, Flume and Big Black Delta. Besides Passion Pit, New England’s homegrown talent will be represented by Deer Tick, You Won’t and Bearstonaut.

Two-day festival passes will go on sale at the “early bird” rate of $120 on Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. Fans can then purchase single-day tickets for $75 or a weekend pass for the standard rate of $130 on Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. VIP packages, which will offer private viewing and dining areas as well as a merchandise credit and festival poster, will be available for $185 per day or $350 for a weekend pass. A portion of all proceeds from Boston Calling will go to the Music Therapy Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, which helps patients cope during their hospitalization by bringing the joy of music to their bedsides.

The announcement for the second Boston Calling took place before The National had even closed out the first edition on Sunday night. The band’s songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Dessner who had helped curate the festival, took to the stage before their set to thank the crowd and give them the good news. Dessner once again helped curate the second edition of Boston Calling, which is presented by Crash Line Productions (founded by former WFNX colleagues Brian Appel and Mike Snow) in a partnership with Bowery Presents

“There was no better time for us to announce Boston Calling’s September return than when we could share it with the fans of our very first festival,” said Appel in a press release, “we’re so appreciative of and motivated by all of the support we have received from fans, artists and the city. It’s an honor to bring Boston Calling back to our city.”

Speaking to the lineup, Snow added, “we love the diversity, energy, and innovation of the September bill, it feels like one big, post-summer Boston party.”
