Bonnie Raitt has revealed plans for the release of her forthcoming album, Slipstream, and a subsequent summer tour in support of the new release. She’ll join forces with special guests Mavis Staples for a summer tour that stops in Boston for a performance at the Bank of America Pavilion on Saturday, June 23. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $25.50 to $65.50, will go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. through Live Nation.

Slipstream, Raitt’s sixteenth studio release and first in seven years, will hit stores on April 10. The 12-track album will feature four songs recorded with producer Joe Henry (Allen Toussaint, Solomon Burke) and his musicians, while the remainder of the album is self-produced with her touring band. Special guests Bill Frisell, Al Anderson, Maia Sharp and Paul Brady also make appearances on the album. Slipstream features a handful of covers and is led by a reinvented “reggae-fied” version of Gerry Rafferty’s hit “Right Down The Line”, which serves as the album’s lead single.

“Hearing myself in this new setting, how deep and effortlessly it went down, really inspired me to start a new record,” explained Raitt in a press release. “Working with Joe and his guys and then reuniting with mine really got my creative juices flowing again.

On the upcoming tour, Raitt will be accompanied by her longtime touring band of James “Hutch” Hutchinson (bass), Ricky Fataar (drums) and George Marinelli (guitar), with the new addition of Mike Finnigan (Joe Cocker, CSN, Etta James, Jimi Hendrix) on keyboards. “They’re all incredibly talented and we fit like a glove,” said Raitt of her band. “we’ve got a great thing going and can’t wait to get back out on the road.”

Raitt’s summer tour with Staples will make several other stops in New England, including the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis on June 24, Mountain Park in Holyoke on June 8 and the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on June 9.

She’ll also perform with March Cohn at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine on May 31 and at the Flynn Center in Burlington, Vermont on June 3 as part of the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. On May 30, Raitt will perform a solo show at New Hampshire’s Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.
