Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond and Alice Cooper top the list of nominees for possible induction into the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This year’s diverse list of 15 nominees includes nine returning nominees: Chic, Joe Tex, Chuck Willis, Darlene Love, the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Laura Nyro and hometown favorites Donna Summer and the J. Geils Band. First time nominees include: Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Dr. John, Tom Waits and Alice Cooper.

In a statement, foundation and CEO Joel Peresman said, “We believe our nominating committee as put forth a list of artists that truly represent the wide variety of music that defines rock and roll.” Inductees will be chosen by ballots sent to over 500 members of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists selected for induction will be announced in December and honored at the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to be held at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria on March 14.

To be eligible for nomination, an act must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2011 Nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1985.

The Rock Hall’s class of 2010 included ABBA, Genesis, The Stooges, Jimmy Cliff, and The Hollies.
