BMS’ Battle of the Cover Bands continues tonight

Boston Music Spotlight’s 2010 Battle of the Cover Bands continues tonight at Hennessy’s Hooley House with the third and final preliminarily round. Tonight’s show will feature Chyldz Play, Big Party Orchestra, Drop Zone and The Whammy Bars competing for a guaranteed spot in the finals. Tickets for tonight’s show are $10 and will be available at the door.

Tonight’s estimated set times are as follows:

8:00  – Chyldz Play
9:00  – Big Party Orchestra
10:00 – Drop Zone
11:00 – The Whammy Bars

Now in its second year, the Boston Music Spotlight Battle of the Cover Bands has been expanded to a bigger and better format for 2010. In a search to find the area’s best cover band, this year’s battle has moved to a tournament style scheduled over four Thursdays in April and May. The BMS Battle of the Cover Bands kicked off April 1 with Red Square defeating Yesterday, Remedy and Run For Covers for a guaranteed spot in the finals. Last week, the Grab Brothers Band defeated the Brian Scully Band, Road Soda and Third Stone to move on to championship round, which will be held at Olivers Nightclub at the Cask’n Flagon on Thursday, May 13. Two wild card selections will join the winners of the preliminary rounds to round the final field of bands for the championship.

Beyond bragging rights, the participating bands will be competing for a grand prize worth over $2,500 and including: cash, a paid gig at Hennessy’s, a professional photoshoot from Dise Photography, graphic design services from Beachwood Graphics, and printing services from Printing Sources, Inc.

The competing bands will perform before a panel of judges at each of the shows. They will be judged on in the following categories: Musicianship, Vocals, Timing of Set, Stage Presence, and Crowd Reaction. Points are awarded on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the highest. Points in the Crowd Reaction category will be worth double.
