Ben Gibbard has revealed plans to hit the road this fall in support of his first solo album, Former Lives. The Death Cab for Cutie frontman will hit Massachusetts for a performance at the Somerville Theatre on Sunday, November 4. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through the venue’s box office and website for $32.50. Advance Base will open the show.

Former Lives, Gibbard’s debut solo release, will hit stores on October 16. The 12 tracks were written over the course of eight years but didn’t find their fully realized form until the songwriter moved from his native Seattle down to Los Angeles. The album was recorded between sessions with Death Cab for what would eventually become 2011’s Codes & Keys at longtime pal Aaron Espinoza’s (Earlimart) studio, The Ship.

Fans can be assured the solo release will not result in the end of Death Cab For Cutie. “Creatively, I’m really cleaning slate,” explained Gibbard in a press release. “I’m doubtful I’ll have another solo album for another ten years because the health of Death Cab for Cutie has never been better. It’s exciting because for the first time in a long while, I’m starting from scratch as a songwriter – there’s no backlog of material to pilfer ideas from. It’s freeing and terrifying.”
