After announcing plans to play Western Massachusetts last week, Ben Folds Five have added a Boston show to their upcoming reunion tour. The pop-rock favorites will hit the Hub for a show at Boston’s House of Blues on Saturday, October 13. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Live Nation for $42 and $55.

As previously announced, Ben Folds Five will perform at Mountain Park in Holyoke on Thursday, September 13. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $30 to $55, are now on sale through NBOTickets. Kate Miller-Heidke will both shows.

After reuniting for to record three tracks for Ben Folds’ The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective in 2011, the original Ben Folds Five trio (Ben, Robert Sledge and Darren Jessee) are on the road in 2012 for their first tour in twelve years. The band will be touring in support of their forthcoming album, The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind. The band’s first studio effort since 1999’s The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner is scheduled to hit stores on September 18. The band funded the album with fan donations through a PledgeMusic drive.

“I have been calling this album ‘the beast’,” said Folds in a recent interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. “Hopefully it doesn’t sound ambitious because you don’t want to burden the listener… but it is ambitious. I have never been one to jump up and down and congratulate myself for a record well done, but I think it’s a good and solid album. I consider myself very lucky to make records with two guys who can, just by putting some notes on tape, make something unique. We sound like us.”

Ben Folds Five can pre-order The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind in a variety of packages through their Pledge Music page. A portion of the funds generated by album sales, and other BFF items ordered by fans through PledgeMusic, will be used to support Music Education and Music Therapy, a charity personally chosen by Ben Folds Five.
