Audra McDonald to play Worcester in February

Singer and actress Audra McDonald will soon return to the road for a series of shows in February. Among the handful of dates is a stop in Massachusetts for a performance at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester on Saturday, February 22. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $45 to $95, are now on sale through the venue’s box office and website.

McDonald, who has won five Tony Awards, is touring in support of her new album Go Back Home. Released in May, it marks her first solo studio effort in seven years. Many of the selections on Go Back Home are by composers with whom McDonald has long been associated (Adam Guettel, Michael John LaChiusa, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Sondheim, among others), while some songs, including the Kander and Ebb title track (streaming below), are by names that are relatively new to her repertoire. The album was produced by Doug Petty, who also produced McDonald’s 2006 release Build a Bridge. Musical director Andy Einhorn conducted the ensemble.
