Lee Dewyze, the reigning champion of American Idol, has revealed plans for his first headlining tour. The Chicago-based pop-rocker will play an intimate show for his fans in Boston at the 340-capacity Brighton Music Hall in Allston on Friday, July 1. Tickets for the show will go on sale Saturday at noon through Ticketmaster for $18.

Dewyze will be touring in support of Live It Up, his major-label debut album released last fall. Working with a team of collaborators including Toby Gad (Alicia Keys, Fergie), John Shanks (Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow), David Hodges (Kelly Clarkson, Weezer), and Norwegian production team Espionage (Beyoncé, Train), DeWyze co-wrote most of the songs on Live It Up. The album was recorded while on the road last summer with the American Idols Live Tour.

“To see my name listed in the credits on each song was really important to me because I’m a songwriter” DeWyze said a in a press release. “I also loved working with such talented writers. They all brought so much to the table and really helped me flesh out my sound.”

Dewyze, who had built up a sizeable following on the Chicago club scene when he first auditioned for American Idol in June 2009 at the urging of his bandmates, won season nine of the hit fox TV show over runner-up Crystal Bowersox.
