American Idol reveals Top 24 for Season 10
After weeks of auditions and grueling qualifying rounds in Hollywood and Las Vegas, American Idol is down the the top 24 contestants that will compete for this season’s top crown. In what many are calling the deepest field of talent the hit Fox TV show has experienced in years, judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced the top 24 contestants for season ten over the past two nights.
The Top 24 semifinalists are: Males – Casey Abrams, Jovany Barreto, Jordan Dorsey, James Durbin, Clint Jun Gamboa, Tim Halperin, Stefano Langone, Brett Loewenstern, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald and Robbie Rosen; Females – Naima Adedapo, Lauren Alaina, Kendra Chantelle, Ashthon Jones, Thia Megia, Haley Reinhart, Karen Rodriguez, Pia Toscano, Lauren Turner, Tatynisa Wilson, Julie Zorrilla and Rachel Zevita.
The decision to lower the ages requirement to 16-years of age paid off with two 16-year old females making the cut, along with a trio of 17 -year old male singers. No singers from New England made the final cut. The complete list of contestants with ages and hometowns is available below.
The competition will kick into full gear next week with the top 12 guys performing on Tuesday, followed by the top 12 girls performing on Wednesday from 8 to 9:30 p.m. The results show, which will cut the field down to 20, will then air on Thursday night at 8 p.m.
At the end of each performance show, the phone lines will open for at least two hours for viewers to vote for their favorite contestant(s) via the branded toll-free telephone numbers. AT&T wireless subscribers can use their cell phones to vote by text. Additionally, for the first time ever, fans will now able to cast their votes online at American Idol’s official website through a partnership with Facebook. Fans will be required to log in using their Facebook account to access the voting page, which will feature the name and photo of each of the current contestants. To vote, fans will simply choose their favorite contestant, complete the security verification and submit their choice. After each performance show and during the online voting window, fans may cast up to 50 total online votes for that evening’s performances. Only fans with a registered Facebook account in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to cast their vote(s) online.
American Idol has been #1 among Adults 18-49 for the past seven consecutive seasons and currently ranks as the #1 television show of the 2010-11 season.
