BOTCB Profile: Drop Zone

, Staff

Boston Music Spotlight’s Battle of the Cover Bands returns this spring in a new and expanded format for its second year. The competition continues on Thursday, April 15 with the third and final preliminary round show. As the competition progresses, we’ll profile each of the participating bands. Here, we profile Drop Zone.

Band Name: Drop Zone

Chris Kinnon: Vocals (Salem, MA)
Steven Sears: Guitar, Keys (Malden, MA)
John Bunzsell: Bass (Quincy, MA)
Peter Pherson: Drums – part-time (Haverhill, MA)
Tom Bouchie: Drums – part-time (Wilmington, MA)

How did you start/form the band?

Chris and Steve were old band mates from the late eighties and decided to give the cover thing a try about ten years ago, it worked out pretty well…took a break for about five years (kids)… started it back up a couple of years ago and got it going better than ever!

How did you decide on your name?

Chris’ idea from being in the Army

Who are some of your influences?

We love it all, old and new, you name it!

What song do you most enjoy to perform?

Currently a tie between “Panic Switch” by the Silversun Pickups and “Back Against The Wall” by Cage The Elephant

What song do you least like to perform?

“Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne

What is your favorite local venue?

Love ’em all (Old School-The Channel!)

Who is the best musician in your band?

We all suck!

What separates you from other local cover bands?

Probably the way we play the songs like we wrote them ourselves, intensity and crowd inter-action I guess you could say.

Why are you going to be the band that wins the BMS Battle of the Cover Bands?

Because we are going to be sober, (maybe)!

What else do you have coming up that people should know about?

We are pretty much out there on a weekly basis from The Chop Shop in Seabrook, New Hampshire, where we are the resident house band, to Mickee’s in Billerica, The Black Lobster and O’Neill’s in Salem. Just trying to stay busy and keep it rockin!
