Sail away with Tim Gearan

, Staff

On Sunday, Tim Gearan will jump aboard the Provincetown II as part of the Boston Rock and Soul Festival. The afternoon cruise, which is part of the Rock and Blues Concert Cruises series, will feature fellow local standouts Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents, Will Dailey, Dennis Brennan, Jesse Dee, Roy Sludge, Love in Stockholm and Christian McNeill & Sea Monsters and more.

Gearan released his fifth album, Riverboat, in May. The album, which was funded by fans through a campaign on Pledge Music, was recorded at Q Division Studios in Somerville with with producer Ed Valauskas (Eli “Paperboy” Reed, The Click Five).

With that in mind, we thought we’d catch up with Tim for a fun interview to discuss his appearance on the concert cruise.

Boston Music Spotlight (BMS): Have you ever played on a boat before?

Tim Gearan (TG): Yes. From Venetian gondolas to the QE2. Urinating off the stern of the Queen Elizabeth while leaving New York harbor was a landmark moment.

BMS: What type of boat would you have and what would it’s name be?

TG: The blue plastic one I have in my bathtub has always been close to my heart. I call her “Boatie”.

BMS: Okay, so you are sailor, what’s your go-to sea shanty?

TG: The “Spongebob Squarepants” theme song, no doubt.

BMS: You are stranded at sea with one album – what is it and why?

TG: Stranded, huh?… Does Scarlett Johansson have a record out that she’s on the cover of?

BMS: What can you expect from your set on the upcoming concert cruise?

TG: Fame and fortune.

Tim Gearan will perform at the Boston Rock & Soul festival aboard the Provincetown II on Sunday, July 29 as part of the Rock & Blues Concert Cruises series. The ship boards at 2 p.m. and departs at 3 p.m. from the World Trade Center Pier in the Seaport District. Tickets for the 21+ event are $25 in advance or $30 on the day of the show.
