Schedule set for 2013 Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble

After revealing the field of 24 participants for Boston’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble, event organizer Anngelle Wood of WZLX’s Boston Emissions has announced the schedule for the 34th edition of the legendary battle of the bands.

The 2013 Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble will kick off on Sunday, April 7 and continue over the course of three weeks at TT the Bear’s Place in Cambridge. Opening night will include sets from The Okay Win, Cancer Killing Gemini, The New Highway Hymnal and Velah. Night #2 will feature Endation, The Deep North, Herra Terra and Camden, while Eddie Japan, Supermachine, Glenn Yoder & The Western States and Blackbutton are scheduled for night #3.The Rumble will take its traditional “day of rest” on Wednesday. The second half of the preliminaries will kick off on Thursday with Mount Peru, Whitcomb, Lifestyle and Twin Berlin. Coyote Kolb, The Field Effect, The Suicide Dolls and White Dynomite will perform on Friday before Parks, Jack Burton vs. David Lo Pan, Ruby Rose Fox and The Daily Pravda close out the preliminary rounds on Saturday. The winners from each night, along with a pair of Wild Card selections, will move on to the semi-final round on Thursday, April 18 and Friday, April 19. The finals will take place on Friday, April 26.

Tickets for each of the preliminary shows are available in advance through TicketWeb for $8. A six-night pass for each of the shows is available for $43. Semifinal tickets are available for $10, while tickets to the finals are $12. A 3-night pass for each of the semifinal shows and the finals is available for $27. Local music fans who plan on attending every night will want to buy the all-inclusive pass for $70.

Now in its 34th year, the competition is the longest running battle of the bands in the country. Beyond serving as the city’s premier battle of the bands, the Rumble has been considered by many as a springtime music festival celebrating the local music scene. With no application process, bands are invited to perform at the Rumble and may only appear once. All bands are paid for their appearance with additional prizes and payment if they go on to the semifinals and finals rounds.

Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck took home the crown at the last year’s Rumble over Garvey J. and Motherboar. Previous champions include: John Powhida International Airport (2011), The Luxury (2009), Girls, Guns & Glory (2008), Township (2007), The Campaign For Real Time (2006), Reverend Glasseye (2005), Jake Brennan & the Confidence Men (2004), The Dresden Dolls (2003), The Gentlemen (2002), Bleu (2001), Darkbuster (2000) and The Sheila Divine (1999).

Notable Rumble participants include ‘Til Tuesday, Morphine, Face to Face, The Del Fuegos, Powerman 5000, Letters To Cleo, Dresden Dolls, Amazing Royal Crowns, Mission of Burma, Piebald, O Positive and The Lemonheads.
