RJL Memorial Battle of the Bands slated for Sunday

The 2011 Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund Battle of the Bands will take place on Sunday, January 30 at Showcase Live in Foxboro. Tickets for the all ages event, which will start at 3 p.m., are are available in advance through Ticketmaster for $10 or for $15 on the day of the show.

This year’s eight semi-finalists include Delta Generators, Sex Coffee, One Step Away, Mindwalk Blvd, Belikos, Dear Havanah, Thurkills Vision and Deadfish. Opening the show will be American Idol finalist Siobhan Magnus and her band Lunar Valve. Magnus, a native of Barnstable, finished sixth on Season Nine of American Idol.

The Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund was established by Rick and Marie Lariviere in 2003 following the loss of their only child Ryan, an avid 21-year-old musician, provides financial and professional assistance to deserving original artists whose musical talents and ideologies reflect those of Ryan’s.

In its seventh year, The Fund seeks to acknowledge its volunteers, sponsors, judges, family and friends by adopting the theme of “Pay It Forward”. Because of their past participation, they were invited to participate in the process of nominating deserving musicians the opportunity to compete for prizes valued in excess of $10,000. The prizes will facilitate the promotion of their music and talents.

The competing bands will perform before a panel of judges including Magnus, former New England Patriot Doug Flutie, producer Anthony J. Resta, percussionist Martin Vazquez, and Boston Music Spotlight’s Rory Flynn.
