John Powhida International Airport won the third night of Boston’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble last night at TT the Bear’s Place. The band edged out a talented group of competition in Spirit Kid, Cult 45 and The Autumn Hollow Band to book their spot in the semifinals.

Powhida, a Boston music veteran with multiple Boston Music Award nominations, is no stranger to the Rumble. In the 2006 Rumble, he lead The Rudds to a second place. His current band features Derek Demulling, Dave Erickson, Brendan Haley and Rafi Sofer.

After three nights of spirited competition, the Rumble will take a break tonight before returning on Thursday with The Acro-Brats, Mellow Bravo, Static Of The Gods and Triple Thick. Tickets are $9 and the show starts at 9 p.m.

The preliminary rounds of the Rumble will continue on Friday and Saturday. Winners from each of the nights, along with two Wild Card selections, will move on to the semifinal rounds on April 14 and 15. So far, Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents (winners of Night #1), Walter Sickert & the Army Of Broken Toys (winners of Night #2) and John Powhida International Airport (Night #3) have all booked their spot in the semifinals. The finals will take place Friday, April 22.
