Boston’s Rock ‘n Roll Rumble returns in 2011

Local music fans rejoice! After taking 2010 off due to the downfall of WBCN, the Boston Emission’s Rock ‘n Roll Rumble will return this spring. In total, 24 bands will compete over a three-week period in April for the coveted crown.

Anngelle Wood, host of the longstanding weekly radio program that now airs on WZLX, announced the field of 24 bands that will compete at this year’s Rumble on Sunday night. The lineup consists of Full Body Anchor, A Wish for Fire, Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys, OldJack, Tired Old Bones, Sidewalk Driver, Cradle To The Grave, Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, The Autumn Hollow Band, Mellow Bravo, The Acro-brats, McAlister Drive, Spirit Kid, Black Thai, Stereo Telescope, Triple Thick, Cult 45, Tijuana Sweetheart, The Blizzard of 78, Jenny Dee and The Deeliquents, John Powhida International Airport, Keep Me Conscious, The Year Million and Static of the Gods.

The 2011 Rock ‘n Roll Rumble will be held at TT the Bear’s Place in Cambridge. The preliminary round  will begin on Sunday, April 3 and continue over the next two nights, before taking a break on Wednesday, and starting again on Thursday and continuing through Saturday. The lineup for each of the nights will be announced next Sunday on Boston Emissions. The winners from each night, along with a pair of Wild Card selections, will move on to the semi-final round on Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15. The finals will take place on Friday, April 22.

Tickets for each of the shows are now on sale through TicketWeb with a variety of packages available. Single-night tickets are priced at $9 for the preliminary rounds, $10 for the semi-finals and $12 for the finals. A 6-night pass for each of the preliminary rounds is available for $49 and a combo pass for the semi-finals can be purchased for $17. Local music fans who plan on attending every night will want to buy the all-inclusive pass for $75.

Now in its 32nd year, the competition is considered by most as the city’s premier battle of the bands. The Luxury too home the crown at the last Rumble in 2009.  Previous Rumble champions include:  Girls, Guns & Glory (2008), Township (2007), The Campaign For Real Time (2006), Reverend Glasseye (2005), Jake Brennan & the Confidence Men (2004), The Dresden Dolls (2003), The Gentlemen (2002), Bleu (2001), Darkbuster (2000) and The Sheila Divine (1999).
