Bad Rabbits came out on top at the 2013 Boston Music Awards, held last night at the Liberty Hotel. The funk rockers took home two awards, including the top prize “Artist of the Year” along with “Pop/R&B Artist Of the Year”. Also winning a pair of awards were Girls Guns and Glory, who were named “Americana Artist of the Year” while frontman Ward Hayden was named “Male Vocalist of the Year” and Karmin, who “Video of the Year” for “Acapella” while singer Amy Renee Heidemann was named “Female Vocalist of the Year”.

Eddie Japan, winners of this year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble, were named “Live Artist of the Year”. Kingsley Flood won “Album/EP of the Year” for Battles, while The Field Effect won “Song of the Year” for “Ogunquit ME”. Speedy Ortiz was named “New Artist of the  Year.”

Other notable winners included Deer Tick (Rock Artist of the Year), Moe Pope & Rain (Hip Hop Artist of the Year), Aofie O’Donovan (Folk Artist of the Year), Big D And The Kids Table (Punk Artist of the Year), Lori McKenna (Singer Songwriter of the Year). Meanwhile, big name nominees like Aerosmith, Dropkick Murphys and Amanada Palmer, which sparked plenty of discussion and controversy leading up to the event, were winless. The complete lists of winners is available below.

The BMA winners were selected after a public vote, which makes up for one-third of the final tally, and an academy vote (made up by about 150 members from across the local music indistry) which accounts for the other two-thirds. The event was dominated by live performances across multiple stages throughout the hotel including Barrence Whitfield, Pretty & Nice, Bearstronaut, You Won’t and many more.

Now in its 26th year, the Boston Music Awards aims to “bring together the music community of New England to honor its best and brightest performers while raising money for music charities to ensure our stages and studios are filled with talent for years to come”. Proceeds from this year’s event benefited the Music Drives Us Foundation.
