On Friday, BMS will host our third annual Battle of the Bands at Oliver’s Nightclub at the Cask’n Flagon. All this week, we’ll profile each of the five participating bands. Today, we’ll turn the spotlight on Streight Angular.

How did you form?

We met at shows and at parties.

Who are some of your influences?

The Pixies, Talking Heads, Weezer, Neil Young

…like rock music that makes you think.

What has your most memorable moment as a band been?

Rockin’ at the Red Onion while people were mechanical Bull Riding in front of us.

Walk us through your songwriting process.

Al writes most of the songs, but we all contribute to the arrangements of the songs.

Who is the best musician in your band?

Probably Andrew, but Paul communicates with the universe and is one of the best guitar players we’ve ever come in contact with and really we’re all pretty good.

What is your favorite local venue?

We like playing house parties the best!

What separates you from other local bands?

We’re actually probably very similar to most local bands, but we do really like to have fun and don’t take ourselves to seriously.

What do you have coming up that people should know about?

We will be on WMBR 88.1 FM performing live on the show Pipeline! on Tuesday, September 14 and we are opening for Minus the Bear at the Landowne Pub for the WFNX Disorientation on Thursday, September 23.
