Sail away with Jesse Dee

BMS talks with Jesee Dee about the band's upcoming concert cruise

, Staff

On Sunday, Jesse Dee will jump aboard the Provincetown II and rock an afternoon cruise with fellow New England favorites the Nate Wilson Group and Paranoid Social Club as part of the Rock and Blues Concert Cruises series.

The Boston soul favorite, who has been touring the world in support of his 2008 album Bitersweet Batch, is known for delivering a thrilling live performance. He and his superb band have opened for soul legends Al Green and Etta James, and on Sunday will come home for their lone Boston show of the summer. With that in mind, we thought we’d catch up Jesse Dee for a fun interview to discuss the band’s upcoming concert cruise.

Boston Music Spotlight (BMS): Have you ever played on a boat before?

Jesse Dee (JD): Yes, I’ve played on several boats before. I enjoy it very much! Live music, a boat full of good people, and the ocean air still remains to be a great combination.

BMS: What type of boat would you have and what would it’s name be?

JD: I’d have a 70’s cruise ship and I’d call it “The Love Boat”.

BMS: Okay, so you are sailor, what’s your go-to sea shanty?

JD: A classic haul shanty like “Haul Away Joe” would get me through the day.

BMS: You are stranded at sea with one album – what is it and why?

JD: Planning ahead to be stranded at sea is a most unusual luxury that few in that predicament have been afforded. But I would have to say I’d want to have something like Run With The Pack by Bad Company or an album with a comparable shine to it’s cover so that I might use it to signal for help.

BMS: What can you expect from your upcoming concert cruise?

JD: I’m expecting a beautiful sunny afternoon out on the harbor, a great opportunity to do what I love most, and bad ass rock band that is going to blow people’s minds. Beyond that, I don’t know what to expect. Once all of those things start mixing together, (which they will – I definitely plan on getting on the stage with Nate Wilson Group!) there’s no telling what might happen.

Jesse Dee will perform on the Provincetown II on Sunday, July 17 as part of the Rock & Blues Concert Cruises series. The ship boards at 2 p.m. and departs at 3 p.m. from the World Trade Center Pier in the Seaport District. Tickets for the 21+ event are $20 in advance with the discount code “Rock” or $28 on the day of the show.
