Rumble Update: Jenny Dee wins Night #1

After a year off, Boston’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble returned to the spotlight last night as the first of six preliminary rounds took place at TT the Bear’s Place in Cambridge. Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents booked the first spot in the semifinal round, edging out competition from McAllister Drive, Oldjack and The Blizzard of 78 to win the first preliminary night.

Led by Jen D’Angora (lead vocals), Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents features Tony Goddess (guitar), Eric Salt (guitar), Phil Aiken (keyboards), Ed Valauskas (bass) and Eric Anderson (drums), along with Beka D’Angora and Samantha Goddess on backing vocals. For D’Angora, it’s her third time in the Rumble after performing with The Downbeat Five in 2003 and The Charms in 2004. Several of the other band members are repeat Rumble performers, including Valauskas who won the crown in 2002 with The Gentlemen.

The Rumble will continue tonight with performances from Walter Sickert & the Army Of Broken Toys, A Wish For Fire, Tijuana Sweetheart and Full Body Anchor. Tickets are $9 and the show starts at 9 p.m.

The third prelininary rounds will take place on Tuesday, before the Rumble breaks for Wednesday and then returns on Thursday through Saturday. Winners from each of the nights, along with two Wild Card selections, will move on to the semifinal rounds on April 14 and 15. The finals will take place Friday, April 22.
