Kevin Youkilis curates benefit album

Today, Red Sox slugger Kevin Youkilis will release, Music Hits Home, a compilation album of national and local New England artists released by Rounder Records. All proceeds from the album will benefit the first baseman’s charity Hits for Kids as well another Boston based non-profit, Christopher’s Haven. To celebrate the album’s release, Youkilis will be signing copies of the CD at Newbury Comics in Faneuil Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. today.

Music Hits Home features a wealth of special tracks, including an unreleased live version of “Why I Am” by Dave Matthews Band and a live, acoustic version of Springfield natives Staind’s “Everything Changes”. In addition, the album feature’s a cover of Boston’s “Foreplay/Long Time” by Phish as well as a live version of the Allman Brother’s “Black Hearted Woman”, recorded at Massachusetts’ own Comcast Center. Music Hits Home also includes tracks from a number of local bands including Ernie and the Automatics, Will Dailey, Stereogroove and of course, the Dropkick Murphys. Founded by Youkilis and his wife Enza, Hits for Kids is a non-profit that provides facial and goodwill support to six grassroots charities in and around New England, including: The Italian Home for Children, Birthday Wishes, Nativity Preparatory School, Loveland, Joslin Pediatric Health Services and Christopher’s Haven, who are also involved with the release of the CD. The non-profit provides housing for families who bring their children to Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital for cancer treatment.
