Country superstar Kenny Chesney may not be coming town next summer, but he will be hitting the big screen in 3-D in 2010. “Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3-D”, which includes footage from his show at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro this past summer, will be released to theaters nationwide in April 2010.

“I’d seen U2’s movie and was blown away,” Chesney said of the film’s inspiration in a press release. “It was like something I’d never seen – and I wondered what would happen if we tried to capture some of what was going on like that… How would it look, because this is more straight up… When we did, everyone who saw the footage agreed, and we started taking this project very seriously.”

Chesney, the 4-time and reigning Country Music Association and 4-consecutive Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, teamed up with Sony Pictures Entertainment highly specialized The Hot Ticket Division, to develop the project. Shot over six nights in five cities – Foxboro, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Indianapolis – “Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3-D” was shot using 22 3-D camera rigs.

“It’s crazy how up close this puts you,” stated Chensey in a press release. “To me on that stage, I feel every single one of my fans – all the way to the very top of those stadiums. But this is like having everyone right there onstage with us, and it’s a rush… I had no idea what we do could go to film quite like that.

“It was an amazing – and at times scary – experience to have cameras that close, in the air, on a blimp… cause they are everywhere. But to see what this film captures: all the energy, the thrill and an even better focus on some of the most rocking nights we’ve ever had, all I can say is… wow.”

The movie should help fill the void of the probability that Chesney will not perform in New England next year. At the conclusion of his stadium tour this past summer, Chesney declared that he would take next year off from stadium touring. However, he has since signed up to headline a couple of festivals: Bama Jam & Arts Festival in Enterprise, Alabama and the Bayou Country Superfest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

In related news, Chesney will perform his hit single “I’m Alive” with Dave Matthews on the CMA Awards live telecast tonight on ABC. He’s also been nominated in three categories: Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist and Vocal Event of the Year with Mac McAnally for “Down the Road.”
