Freelance Journalists

Boston Music Spotlight is seeking bright, motivated writers who share our passionate about music. Reporting to the Managing Editors, feature writers will write the primary content for the online magazine including concert reviews and feature stories/interviews, as well as assist the Editorial team in other content-related tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Attend concerts and write reviews

Conduct interviews with artists (in-person, by phone or e-mail) and/or attend press conferences

Research and write news and extended feature articles

Update concert calendar database

Assist with updates and maintenance of website and social media accounts

Work closely with Editors to develop new forms of content

Required Skills/Experience:

Possesses excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, remote work environment. Position requires excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Must demonstrate a positive, upbeat and enjoyable attitude. Be knowledgeable about BMS and a fan of music with knowledge of the local music scene a plus. The position requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends. A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications or Journalism with prior journalism experience (such as a school newspaper or internship) is preferred.

Schedule: Part-Time

Location: Boston area – Telecommute (*Writers with an interest in features/interviews do not have to be based in New England*)

Compensation: Unpaid. Concert tickets will be provided.
