Video Spotlight: Neil Young covered

, Staff

Everybody loves a good Neil Young cover, and with the legendary rocker coming to town this week we figured we’d share some great Young covers performed by some great local artists. Unfortunately, one of our favorite covers, “Powderfinger” as done by the Hot Stove All Stars each year at the “Hot Stove, Cool Music” event, is nowhere to be found on Youtube. However, here are some other fun covers that will fill the void.

“Trasher” by Evan Dando – The Lemonheads frontman doesn’t actually sing the whole song here, but he makes up for it by throwing in a little Bob Dylan impression as an added bonus!

“Winterlong” by The Pixies – Frank and Kim team up for this pretty rendition which they recorded for a Neil Young tribute album

“Cortez The Killer” by Grace Potter – Potter & The Nocturnals have been known to cover this classic, but we especially like this version of Grace with the likes of Joe Satriani, Stephen Perkins, and others at the Jammy awards a few years back. (Plus this vid has the best sound quality of the others)

“Keep On Rockin’ in the Free World” by State Radio – Neil brings everybody together as State Radio are joined by famous friends Kevin Youkilis, Bronson Arroyo, and Theo Epstein on this jam.
