Breakers in the Spotlight: Leah Blayney

, Staff

In this week’s edition of Athletes in the Spotlight, Boston Music Spotlight talks with Boston Breakers midfielder Leah Blayney. The Australia native and Central Connecticut State University product is in her first year with the Breakers, who are currently 3-5-3 and will take on the Atlanta Beat this weekend.

Boston Music Spotlight (BMS): What do you like to listen to before a game?

Leah Blayney (LB): Most recently, I’m really liking Stereophonics and a bit of Naked and Famous especially driving to the field. But once we get there, mostly hip-hop. And whatever Alex Scott has on the iPod in the change rooms is usually pretty good!

BMS: Do you have any musical talents (or do you prefer Rock Band/Guitar Hero)? And if your were in a band, what would your band name be?

LB: I’m currently learning to play the acoustic guitar in our free time from soccer, not the easiest of tasks, so if anyone is offering any free lessons, well, I’d be all about it!

BMS: Which of your teammates has the best taste in music? What about the worst?

LB: I’m going to give a shout out to Liz Bogus because I know she gets really nervous about what she puts on… Bogy, I like your style!

BMS: What was the first concert you attended?

LB: Oasis in Atlanta.

BMS: Any concerts you have enjoyed recently or are excited to be attending soon?

LB: I actually saw Andy Grammer, Kate Voegele and Natasha Bedingfield in concert with teammates Taryn Hemmings and Kasey Moore (on June 8). Really good performance in a little place called the Somerville Theatre right here in Boston.

Blayney and the Boston Breakers will host the Atlanta Beat at Harvard Stadium on Sunday at 6 p.m. Tickets for the match start at $15 and can be purchased at The game will also be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel.
