Revs in the Spotlight: Kevin Alston
In this week’s edition of Athletes in the Spotlight, Boston Music Spotlight talks with New England Revolution defender Kevin Alston. The Maryland native and Indiana University product is in his fourth season with the Revolution, who are currently 6-10-5 (23 pts.) and will take on Sporting Kansas City this weekend.
Boston Music Spotlight (BMS): What do you like to listen to before a game?
Kevin Alston (KA): I’d say hip hop and R&B. I’m a big R&B fan – mostly Lil Wayne, Wale and Drake.
BMS: Do you have any musical talents (or do you prefer Rock Band/Guitar Hero)?
KA: Well, I definitely prefer Rock Band because you can play a lot more instruments. I don’t have any musical talents, unfortunately. I wish I did. I want to learn how to play the piano.
BMS: If you were in a band, what would your band name be?
KA: I would just make up a word on the spot and that would probably be my band name.
BMS: Which of your teammates has the best taste in music?
KA: I’d say Tyler Polak or Stephen McCarthy.
BMS: What about the worst?
KA: Zack Boggs.
BMS: What was the first concert you attended?
KA: I went to a concert [put on by] a radio station, like “Summer Jam”, in Florida in 2005.
BMS: Any concerts you have enjoyed recently or are excited to be attending soon?
KA: I went to the Drake concert, “Club Paradise”, a couple of weeks ago. That was alright. And I might go to the Meek Mill concert in a couple of weeks.
Alston and the New England Revolution will host Sporting Kansas City at Gillette Stadium on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. as part of special international soccer doubleheader with Italy’s AC Milan taking on Honduras’ C.D. Olimpia at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for the special doubleheader start at $35 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. The Revolution game will also be televised live on Comcast SportsNet.
