Breakers in the Spotlight: Kelsey Davis

, Staff

In this week’s edition of Athletes in the Spotlight, Boston Music Spotlight talks with Boston Breakers goalkeeper Kelsey Davis. The California native and University of Portland product is in her first year with the Breakers, who are currently 3-5-2 and will take on the Atlanta Beat this weekend.

Boston Music Spotlight (BMS): What do you like to listen to before a game?

Kelsey Davis (KD): I like to listen to a mixture of genres. It really depends on my mood before the game. Typically I like to listen to worship music or indie early in the day and as the game gets closer more hip hop. Our dance parties in the locker room usually are evoked by some rap and hip hop.

BMS: Do you have any musical talents (or do you prefer Rock Band/Guitar Hero)? And if your were in a band, what would your band name be?

KD: Unfortunately, no musical talent here. So, Rock Band it is, and let me tell you I completely shred. If I was in a band our name would be “The Jokes” or “The Rolling Cones,” basically a name close enough to a famous band where people might not notice and still come see us play.

BMS: Which of your teammates has the best taste in music? What about the worst?

KD: I would say Alex Scott has the best taste in music. She has a pretty eclectic mix on her iPod. Worst taste? Most likely Coach Tony DiCicco.

BMS: What was the first concert you attended?

KD: The Grateful Dead when I was 8-years old.

BMS: Any concerts you have enjoyed recently or are excited to be attending soon?

KD: The last concert I saw was Matt Wertz and Ben Rector in Boston with my teammates. It was awesome. I’m hoping to catch Niki Minaj later this summer and hopefully a few other bands.

Davis and the Boston Breakers will travel to Georgia this weekend to take on the Atlanta Beat on Sunday. The game will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel. The Breakers’ next home game will be against the Atlanta Beat on Sunday, July 10. Tickets for the match start at $15 and can be purchased at
