CBS Radio drops WBCN for new sports radio station
WBCN 104.1 FM, a rock radio staple on Boston airwaves for the past four decades, will be silenced next month. CBS Radio has decided to drop the station in a move that will ultimately make room for new sports radio programming, a move that had rumored around town for a few years.
WBCN, "The Rock of Boston," will continue as a Internet station available at www.wbcn.com. For those who have an HD Radio receiver, WBCN will be available at 98.5 HD 2. However, it is unknown if any of the WBCN’s current DJs will remain with station’s new format. The future of the station’s Sunday night local programming, Boston Emisisons, is also unknown at the moment.
According to the press release issued by CBS, "WBCN will say goodbye to Boston listeners after 41 years on the air with unique programming and stories celebrating the history and heritage of the station."
