Our Best Picks& & & -& & & Our Music Picks& & & -& & & Our Non Music Picks

Our Best Picks

BMS Battle of the Bands at Olivers Nightclub on Friday: Come down to Oliver’s at the Cask for our 2nd Annual Battle of the Bands where just $10 will have the tight competition of In Like Lions, Polyethylene, Shadwell, Silent Century, and Taste will have you rocking through the night. You can grab tickets at the door or online through TicketLeap. See you there!

U2, Snow Patrol at Gillette Stadium on Sunday: It’s been years since U2 did stadium shows, the last time being the end of their “PopMart” tour. This time the band is bringing another massive stage production dubbed by some as “the claw” and others as “the spaceship” for their innovative “360” tour. With a the impressive stage show, a mix of new tunes and old rarities making the set list, as well as support from fellow Irish rockers Snow Patrol, this should make for an amazing show. Tickets were re-released earlier this week and are also available through other outlets like Craigslist for cheap.

Our Music Picks

Owl City, Kate Havnevik at the Paradise Rock Club: It seems as if Adam Young’s synth pop project Owl City is no longer just a MySpace hit as he’s managed to sell out the Paradise with the help of Norwegian singer Kate Havnevik. Hope you already got your tickets!

Face To Face at the House of Blues: No, not the Boston new-wave outfit, but rather the reunited SoCal punk-rockers. The band is back on the road for their first headlining tour since ending their five-year hiatus. Pegboy and Polar Bear Club provide support. Tickets are $27.&

Gaelic Storm at the Lowell Summer Music Series: The summer season is ending in Celtic fashion in Lowell with a performance from the celebrated Irish-American band Gaelic Storm. Arthur’s Day may not be til the 24th but go ahead and grab a Guinness this Friday then head over to Boarding House park for some traditional Irish tunes. Tickets are just $20

Billy Ray Cyrus at Showcase Live!: His daughter may be the star of the family today but Billy Ray Cyrus can still warm your achy breaky heart. Although he’s now part of the Disney pop machine he’s stuck true to his country roots as is apparent on his latest release Back to Tennessee. Tickets range from $25 to $55.

NEEDTOBREATHE at the Paradise Rock Club: These guys sound like John Mayer with more of an edge. If that sounds interesting to you then check them out along with Serena Ryder and Green River Ordinance. Tickets are $15 at the door.

The Walkmen at the Middle East Downstairs: It’s not often you see indie bands get booked two nights in a row someone but then again The Walkmen aren’t you’re average indie band. You’ve got two chances to see them (Friday and Saturday) along with Here We Go Magic and The Dig so don’t screw up! Tickets are just $15.

Aloud, Brendan Boogie at Church: Although Aloud’s lineup has been frequently changing as of late their music has been constantly rocking as always. Head over to Church to see them headline another great night of local music with support from Brendan Boogie and Blizzard of 78 to name a few. $10 cover charge at the door. The show is part of Boston Band Crush’s University “What’s Your Major?” weekend, which starts with another great show at Church on Friday night.

Allston Village Street Fair: The event that they should’ve called “Allston City Limits” boasts plenty of entertainment including performances by former American Idol contestant Ayla Brown and BMS faves Three Day Threshold. Best of all- it’s free!

Secondhand Serenade, Parachute at the House of Blues: A little something for the ladies this weekend as the House of Blues will be filled with some acoustic pop-rock that they so adore. Tickets are available for $20 and $25.

Boyz II Men at the The Big E: Perhaps we spoke to soon, now here’s something for the ladies. The R&B icons will perform a free concert of their smooth ballads as they make love to your ears with their harmonies.
