American Idol down to final 24 with 2 Boston hopefuls

American Idol has revealed the final 24 contestants that will compete in Los Angeles over the next few months and Bostonians will have plenty of reasons to watch. Among the final 24 contestants are Ashley Rodriguez, a 22-year old Chelsea native, and Siobhan Magnus, a 19-year old from Marstons Mills in Barnstable.

Rodriguez is a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music and cites Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston as her music influences. Magnus is a 2008 Barnstable High School and cites Courtney Love and the Hole as a major musical influence. She’s also an apprentice glassblower at Morrison Glass Studio in Hyannis and was lead singer for the local band Lunar Valve.

The two locals will also compete with another New Englander. Katie Stevens, a 17-year old native Middlebury, Connecticut has been heavily featured in early episodes and is one of the Top 24 contestants on season eight.

The top 12 women will perform live next Tuesday with the top 12 men taking the stage live Wednesday. Viewer votes will determine which two women and two men will be eliminated. The show airs live on Fox 25 every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 8 p.m.

Ayla Brown, the star basketball player for Boston College and daughter of U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and WCVB reporter Gail Huff, has been the most successful Massachusetts resident on American Idol. She was cut just before the Top 12 were decided during season five.
